Since you spend a lot of time outdoors, you’d be a good person to ask:
I’m in Lake Forest and wondering where we can take our kiddies (6 & 4) for basic, local camping…not too hard core, “sissy-la-la” compared to what you’re used to, I’m sure…but I would like to get the kids out…gotta start somewhere.
So, any suggestions for those somewhat new to camping? Prefer to have a potty (showers not necessary for quick trips) and not too overly priced. I’m going to try and encourage some of the other kindergarten families to meet us!
Any input (even if just fun day use places) is appreciated! Thanks!

There are a few options around here….
#1 O’Neil Regional Park is the nearest. It’s a county park. visit http://www.ocparks.com/ONEILLPARK/
#2 Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park – http://www.ocparks.com/caspers/
#3 Beach camping at Bolsa Chica State Beach
This is a popular place for surf fishing and has a beautiful shoreline, but only RV’s are allowed (no tents).

#4 more beach camping at Doheny State Beach
This large park has a campground in the southern area (with some campsites only steps away from the beach). It can accommodate campers up to 28 feet long.
